ZPZ (周鹏臻)
ZPZ (周鹏臻) is a young percussionist and musician, the founder of the percussion arts education institution 臻鼓文化, and a professional percussion instructor.
As one of China’s first-generation handpan performers and one of the first generation of pioneers in China to explore both handpans and steel tongue drums, ZPZ has continued to research and promote their performance techniques. He was the first person in China to bring the steel tongue drum to a television program as part of his work promoting the instrument, and the first Chinese person invited to lead a handpan masterclass at a percussion arts festival in Tokyo, Japan.
In the early days, when overseas internet access and services directed toward China were still underdeveloped, ZPZ devoted himself to researching handpan and steel tongue drum playing techniques, making a distinctive contribution to handpan learning in China. Through his ongoing study of performance techniques and theory, he earned praise from numerous professional musicians.
ZPZ was also among the earliest performers to research, apply, teach and promote certain specialized handpan playing techniques. These include the handpan wah effect, triplet effects, triplet delay effects, and handpan harmonics, which are now commonly encountered.
ZPZ has collaborated with 冯满天 (Feng Mantian) and 吴碧霞 (Wu Bixia), and provided musical accompaniment for 魏晨 (Wei Chen), 黄绮珊 (Huang Qishan), 任贤齐 (Ren Xianqi), 巫启贤 (Wu Qixian), 黎沸挥 (Li Feihui), 孙楠 (Sun Nan), 苏永康 (Su Yongkang), 梁汉文 (Liang Hanwen), 叶蓓 (Ye Bei), 游鸿明 (You Hongming), 李泉 (Li Quan), 袁惟仁 (Yuan Weiren), 吴克群 (Wu Kequn) and 腾格尔 (Teng Geer). He has also taken part in recordings and appearances for multiple television programs, artists’ concerts, and film and television music production.
